Who this is for: coaches who give feedback to athletes, and athletes who receive notes and surveys. Permission required: none to read your own coaching notes or answer a survey; Create Practices or Set Practice Lineups to add coaching notes and read survey results.
Feedback in Boathouse Connect goes both ways. Coaches leave coaching notes for individual athletes from a recent practice, and athletes answer a short survey after each practice they were in a lineup for. Notes help athletes improve; survey answers help coaches improve lineups and practice plans and catch equipment problems early.
Add coaching notes
- Go to Practices → Coaching Notes.
- Select Add Coaching Notes.
- Choose the practice in Select Practice. You can pick from the last 15 practices.
- Under Create / Modify Coaching Notes, find the athlete by Boat, Seat and Athlete.
- Type in the Note box. The note saves when you click out of the box.
To change a note, select the same practice again and edit the text.
Note: Notes are written against the practice's lineup, so an athlete must have been in a boat at that practice for you to leave them a note.
Read your coaching notes
- When a coach leaves you a note, you get a New Coaching Note notification.
- Go to Practices → Coaching Notes to see My Coaching Notes.
You only see notes written for you. Other athletes cannot see your notes.
Post-practice surveys
After a practice ends, Boathouse Connect emails a survey to each athlete whose lineup was published for that practice. Athletes are asked to complete it within 24 hours of the practice ending.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Were lineups for this practice created well? | Yes or No |
| Were you happy with the Practice Plan and how it was executed at practice? | Yes or No |
| Did you notice any equipment issues (in your boat/seat or other equipment)? | Yes or No, plus details when Yes |
| Do you have any constructive feedback that you would like to provide to your coaches? | Free text, optional |
Answer a survey
- Open the survey link in the email.
- Answer the questions and select Submit Survey.
Tip: Be specific about equipment issues. The survey says this information is sent to the equipment manager for follow-up. See Reported issues & maintenance.
Surveys are emailed, so make sure email from Boathouse Connect reaches you. See Not receiving emails or texts?.
Read survey responses
Coaches can read responses in several places.
For one practice
- Go to Practices → Lineups and open the Past tab.
- Select Survey Results on the practice.
You can also select View Practice on a past practice in Practices → Manage and open the Surveys tab, which shows how many athletes were satisfied with the lineups and practice plan, and their comments.
Across practices
- Go to Practices → Analytics.
- Set the date range and select Generate Report.
- Open the Coach Feedback tab. Use Filter by Coach to see one coach's feedback.
The Coach Feedback table lists Practice Name, Athlete, Boat, Coach, Satisfied With Lineup, Satisfied With Practice Plan and Comments. See Practice analytics & erg scores.
Recent feedback for coaches can also appear as a card on the Dashboard.
FAQ
Why didn't an athlete get a survey? Surveys go only to athletes whose lineup was published for the practice, after the practice has ended. Athletes who attended but were not in a lineup are not surveyed.
Can I leave a note for a practice from last season? No. Add Coaching Notes offers the last 15 practices.
Are survey answers anonymous? No. Coaches see the athlete's name next to each answer.
Are these the same as club surveys? No. Post-practice surveys are automatic. To send your own questions to members, see Surveys.
Can we turn off the post-practice survey? Not for the whole organization. The survey is sent automatically, after the practice ends, to every athlete whose lineup was published. Each athlete can stop the emails by opting out of Post-practice survey under My Profile → Preferences → Contact Preferences.
