New member guide

Create your account, finish the first-login questions, join your club and set up your profile.

Who this is for: athletes, parents, coaches and volunteers whose club already uses Boathouse Connect. Permission required: none — this is everything you can do on your own.

If you are setting up a club for the first time, read the New club guide instead.

1. Create your account

Your account belongs to you, not to your club. You only ever need one, even if you row for several clubs.

  1. Go to boathouseconnect.com and choose Register → New User.
  2. Enter your name, email address, phone number, birthday, gender and a password. Use an email address you check — join approvals, lineups and club messages go there.
  3. Submit the form, then sign in with your email address and password at Login.

Already have an account? Just sign in. Do not create a second account for a second club — see Joining more than one organization below.

2. Answer the first-login questions

The first time you sign in, a short Getting Started wizard asks for details your coaches use to build lineups and keep you safe. It only appears once, and you can change any answer later under My Profile → Preferences.

  • Rowing experience — how comfortable you are sweep rowing on port and starboard, sculling, and coxing, on a scale from Never tried it to I am a master. Coaches see this when building lineups, so be honest rather than modest.
  • Emergency contact — who to call if something happens at practice.
  • Personal details — height, weight, dietary restrictions and address. Height and weight are used for rigging and coxswain selection; your club controls who can see them.

Your club may add its own onboarding questions to this wizard.

3. Join your organization

After the wizard you land on your Dashboard. Until you belong to an organization it is mostly empty. There are two ways in; your club will usually tell you which to expect.

Option A — you were pre-authorized

Clubs can pre-authorize an email address before the person registers. If your club did this for the email address you registered with, you are added to the organization automatically — you will see the club's name in the organization switcher next to the notifications icon, and the Dashboard fills in with the club's widgets. Nothing else to do.

If you registered with a different email address than the club pre-authorized, use Option B or ask the club to pre-authorize the address you actually used.

Option B — request an invitation

  1. On the Dashboard, find the Organization Finder widget.
  2. Search for your club by name and select it.
  3. Click Request Invite.
  4. Anyone at the club with the Add User to Organization permission sees your request in their Pending Join Requests widget and approves it. You will get an email when they do.

Approval is done by a person, so it can take a little while. If it has been more than a day or two, contact the club directly — Boathouse Connect support cannot approve join requests on a club's behalf.

Joining more than one organization

Row for a juniors program and a masters club? Coach at one club and compete for another? Repeat Option A or B for each organization with the same account. Every organization you belong to appears in the organization switcher (next to the notifications icon). Pick one and the whole app — groups, schedule, messages, finances — switches to that organization. Your profile, preferences and erg scores follow you everywhere.

4. Finish your profile

Once you are in, spend two minutes on My Profile:

Do this Where Why it matters
Add a profile picture My Profile → Profile Picture Coaches and teammates recognize you in lineups and rosters.
Add your USRowing number My Profile → Basic Information Lets your club match your USRowing waiver automatically so you are not chased for it.
Check your contact details My Profile → Basic Information Texts and emails from the club go to what is listed here.
Set notification preferences My Profile → Notifications Choose how you hear about lineups, practice changes and messages.

5. Join your groups

Clubs are organized into groups — squads such as Varsity, Novice or Masters, plus groups like Parents or Volunteers. Groups determine which practices, lineups, messages and fees apply to you, so you need to be in the right ones.

  1. Go to Groups → My Groups.
  2. The list shows every group in the organization and whether Self-Join is allowed.
  3. If self-join is allowed, click Join. Otherwise click Request To Join and a group manager will approve you.

Two things to know:

  • Joining a group can require documents or a fee. If the group has a signing requirement, each document opens for you to sign first. If it has a join fee, a payment window asks you to choose a payment method (a saved card or verified bank account, or add one on the spot), apply any discount code and, where offered, pick a payment plan before you join — see Paying as a member.
  • Your club may add you to groups directly, in which case you will simply see them listed under My Groups.

Not sure which groups you belong in? Ask your coach — group names and rules are set by each club.

6. What to look at next

  • Practices → Lineups / My Attendance — your schedule, your seat, and marking yourself unavailable.
  • Communications → Chat / My Messages — club messages and group chat.
  • Waivers & Docs → My Waivers & Docs — anything you still need to sign.
  • Finances → My Finances — your balance and payment history.
  • Download the Boathouse Connect mobile app for schedule, lineups, attendance and chat on your phone.

FAQ

I did not get my confirmation / approval email. Check spam and promotions folders, then confirm the email on My Profile → Basic Information is the one you expected. Club messages come from Boathouse Connect on the club's behalf, so add the sender to your contacts.

My club does not appear in the Organization Finder. The club may not be on Boathouse Connect yet, or may be listed under a different name (for example the full legal name rather than a nickname). Ask the club what name to search for.

I created two accounts by mistake. Email [email protected] from one of the addresses and say which account to keep.

Can a parent and an athlete share an account? No — one account per person. Parents create their own account and are typically added to a Parents group or as stakeholders so they receive the squad's messages.

I need to reset my password. Use Forgot password on the login page; a reset link is sent to the email address on your account.

Can't find what you need? Email [email protected].
